What is the church of Christ ? What is special about it ? The story began when God, because of His great love for man (generic), wants man to go to Heaven when our earthly lives are over. Fallen into sin, man risks eternal hell. But in order to rescue him, God sends his only begotten son, Jesus the Christ, into the world born of Mary. He died, was buried and resurrected, thereby conquering death, that feared enemy.
Today all who believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and obeys His commandments shall have his or her relationship with God fully restored. While to this end Christ came to this world, He also came to establish His church.
Jesus Christ built His church in the first century A.D. While alive, He promised that He would build it. After His death, burial, resurrection and ascension to Heaven, the church came into existence on the day of Pentecost in Jerusalem. Those who are saved by obedience to the plan of salvation receive forgiveness of sins and are translated into the kingdom of God’s dear Son. The saved are in the church and they are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Collectively the people of God are referred to as the church of Christ.
We at the church of Christ at Section 17 strive to be the same as the first century church of Christ. How do we do this? As believers, we seek God and His righteousness. In worship, we do so in spirit and in truth putting aside all commandments of man that render worship vain. Bible authority is sought for Christian action, speech, and attitude. In outreach, the church endeavours to proclaim the precious word of God so as to gain as many as possible to the side of God and His Christ, and His kingdom.
Even as our faith is in Jesus Christ, we treasure the hope of heaven. The greatest that is cherished is love. Our sincere desire is to share faith, hope and love with everyone. All are invited to join our humble family in Christ and to learn more of the New Testament church our Lord died for. We are Christians and want to be Christians only.
